The historical writing fonts are on display at Regional office of National Archives of India, Bhopal in a Calligraphy Exhibition ‘Moroccan Calligraphy’. The exhibition began here from Monday featuring calligraphy writings.

This is a mobile exhibition on national level being organized for the art lovers of the city. The exhibition features some beautiful works by two Moroccan calligraphy artists Mohamed Qarmad and Sadik Haddari. The exhibition was first inaugurated in Delhi and now is put up in Bhopal. The exhibition will be on view till April 9 in city.

It is to be noted that the exhibition is being organized to observe the 125th foundation year of National Archives of India. Majorly the exhibition focuses on Islamic Calligraphy. Islamic calligraphy excelled due to the forms of Arabic letters, composed of dots, lines and curves. These attributes give the artist a freedom to create beautiful art.

It is noteworthy that Islamic calligraphy is associated with geometric Islamic art on the walls and ceilings of mosques as well as on the page. Contemporary artists in the Islamic world draw on the heritage of calligraphy to use calligraphic inscriptions or abstractions.

One of the works by Mohamed Qarmad is portrait of Mahatma Gandhi wherein he has inserted the words like dignity, freedom, justice written in calligraphy design. Other works include some Islamic verses from the Muslim holy book.
