United Way of Lake County announced that its fifth annual Dine-to-Donate fundraiser will be April 10.
United Way of Lake County provides food to over 50 local food pantries in the community, and Dine-to-Donate contributes to this by helping to raise funds for the purchase of food, according to a news release.
On April 10 of this year, a total of 43 Lake County restaurants will donate a portion of their daily revenue to UWLC’s Feed Lake County program. Participating restaurants can be found at uwlc.org/dine-donate-tuesday-april-10 or in this interactive map.
“We wouldn’t be mad if residents chose to dine out for two or three meals that day,” Tami Lewis, UWLC’s director of marketing and communications, said in the release. “The greater each restaurant’s revenue is that day, the more our community benefits.
“Dine-to-Donate is an easy way for residents to make a big impact on hunger in our community,” Lewis said.
There are 28,410 Lake County residents who struggle with hunger, and last year UWLC was able to provide enough food for 204,966 meals, according to the release
“Another way residents can help is by making a monetary donation. Every $5 donated is enough to provide 20 meals for our hungry, which means a $25 donation is enough to provide 100 meals,“ Lewis said.
Donations can be made online at uwlc.org/feed or by phone at 440-639-1291.
“And because the need is so great, we’re offering residents who donate the chance to win a large 65-inch LG Smart TV,” Lewis said. “With every $5 donated, donors will receive one contest entry for a chance to win. With every $25 donated, donors will receive 5 separate contest entries for a chance to win.”
The contest ends April 30, and the winner will be randomly selected on or about May 4.
The organization is also accepting non-perishable food donations which may be dropped off at the offices of United Way of Lake County at 9285 Progress Parkway in Mentor. Arrangements can also be made for them to pick up food by calling 440-639-1236.
Needed non-perishable food items include peanut butter and jelly; pasta and sauce; canned meats such as tuna, chicken, and ham; canned fruits, vegetables, soups and stews; boxed food and meals like macaroni and cheese, tuna helper, rice and more.
