Madhavaram inter-city bus terminus to open in two months

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is set to open the satellite inter-city bus terminal at Madhavaram in two months.

Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam inspected the facility on Monday in the presence of CMDA member-secretary Rajesh Lakhoni and Minister P.Benjamin. Mr. Panneerselvam directed officials to complete the project on time, monitoring the quality of construction.

More than 90% of the work has been completed and the facility is expected to be inaugurated in two months. Commuters will have to board buses here to cities such as Hyderabad, Tirupati and Nellore.

The facility is expected to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It has been developed on eight acres. There is space for 42 buses in the ground floor and 50 buses on the first floor. City buses will have nine additional slots in the terminus. “Parking space for 1,700 motorcycles and 72 cars has been developed,” said an official.

The terminal will have an overhead tank with a capacity of 40,000 litres, an underground sump for water with a capacity of 5 lakh litres, a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 2 lakh litre.

ATM facility

There are six staircases, three lifts, two ATMs and two ticket counters. There is provision for eight shops, a restaurant, and an infant feeding room. There is a family waiting hall, crew rest room, health clinic, pharmacy and a dormitory.

An information office and toilets have been provided. The premises will have five high mast lights.

The project cost is estimated at ₹95 crore and there is 2.41 sq ft of built-up space.
