JAJPU: Mangalpur police arrested a man on charges of rape after a 25-year-old girl alleged that the accused, after having physical relation with her, refused to marry her. The accused has been identified as Narayan Das (29) of Garagachha village under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district. He was forwarded to court on Tuesday and later remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.

Narayan, who started his love affair with a missed call, is now cooling his heels behind bars.
According to a complaint filed by the victim with the police, Narayan, a married man and father of a child, was trying to call one of his friends a couple of months ago and he dialled wrong number and the call went to the girl of Mangalpur area in the district. On receiving the call, the unmarried girl talked with Narayan for a while. Then their love affair started following this call.

Later, both started talking on phone regularly. Over a span of time, the love birds planned to see each other in person. As per the plan, Narayan came to Mangalpur to meet the girl for the first time in January this year.

“Narayan used to come to the girl’s house and started physical relation with the girl with a promise to marry her. But he was buying time for marriage every time. He had come to the girl’s house on Sunday night. The girl forced him to marry her this time and he refused. He further said he cannot marry her as he is already married and is father of a child,” said a police officer.

Police said the girl did not know that her boyfriend was married and a father of a child. After coming to know of this fact, she informed her mother and other family members. The family members of the victim confined the man to a room. The girl then decided to approach the police and lodged an FIR on Monday.
Basing on the report, police arrested the accused. They conducted medical examination of both the accused and the victim in the district headquarters hospital.

“We have arrested the accused under various sections of the IPC and sent him to the local court,” police said.
