Queensland police confirmed they were investigating the matter after le Mauricien reported an allegation of “indecent acts” against a female athlete on Saturday night.
“The Queensland Police Service has received a complaint in relation to allegations of an assault involving an international Commonwealth Games delegate,” a spokeswoman said, in a statement.
“Police are investigating the matter.
“As this is an ongoing investigation it is inappropriate to provide further comment at this stage.”
According to Mauritius’ Defi Media, Mr Toussaint on Tuesday told a radio station that after meeting with Olympic committee members and listening to versions of the situation from two people involved, Mr Teeroovengadum had decided to withdraw “for the good of all”.
He also moved to reassure the parents of the country’s athletes that they were in safe hands.
In a statement issued to The Guardian, the CGF said it had the “utmost confidence in Queensland police and its investigative capabilities”.
“The chief executive officer of the Commonwealth Games Federation has been made aware through media representatives of purported allegations, however there has been no reporting to the CGF through the established village processes,” it said.
CGF chief executive David Grevemberg told News Corp the matters were taken “incredibly seriously” and there was “zero tolerance”.
The allegation came ahead of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
