The market breadth was in favour of the declines with 712 stocks advancing while 996 declined and 325 remained unchanged. On the other hand, in the BSE, 1135 stocks advanced and 1419 declined and 151 remained unchanged.
The Indian equity market were trading on a negative note on Wednesday afternoon with the Nifty falling 108 points at 10,136 mark while the Sensex was up 323 points or 0.97 percent.
Nifty IT was trading down 1 percent dragged by Oracle Financial which fell 3 percent followed by Mindtree which was down 2 percent. Tech Mahindra was trading lower by 1.3 percent while HCL Tech was down 1.74 percent.
Nifty metal was down close to 2 percent as stocks like Steel Authority of India traded lower by 3 percent while Tata Steel was down 2 percent. Jindal Steel & Power and Hindustan Copper were also lower by 2 percent each.
The top Nifty gainers included Tata Motors which jumped 4 percent intraday on rise in JLR sales and new product launches. It was followed by Eicher Motors which added 3 percent while Bajaj Finance, Hero MotoCorp and Adani Ports were the other gainers.
The most active Nifty stocks included Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, HEG and Reliance Industries.
The top Nifty losers were UPL which fell 3 percent while Hindustan Petroleum Corporation was down 2.8 percent. Grasim Industries, Hindalco Industries and Titan Company were the other losers.
The top BSE gainers included Rattan India which jumped 13 percent while Kwality was up close to 10 percent. Reliance Naval, Repco Home and Shriram City Union were the other gainers.
The top BSE losers included names like Network18 which was down 5 percent followed by Vakrangee, HCC, Voltas and Hexaware Tech.
Bajaj Electricals, Bharat Financial Inclusion, Interglobe Aviation, Firstsource, MRF, Nestle India, Pidilite Industries, TV18 Broadcast and V-Mart Retail were some of the Nifty stocks which hit fresh 52-week high in today's trade.
Gitanjali Gems, SRS, Amtek Auto and Lloyd Steel were some of the stocks which hit new 52-week low.
