MUMBAI:
Abraham Menezes, a senior citizen suffering from Alzheimer’s and diabetes was found in
Cuffe Parade on Wednesday, a day after he went missing from Yari Road. Menezes (76) has no memory of how he reached Cuffe Parade.
Around 6.30am on Tuesday, Menezes and his wife, Irene, had gone for a morning walk to the
BMC park at Yari Road. Menezes, dressed in a black and grey striped shirt and black trackpants, left early from the park. However, he never returned to his Versova house. Soon, his son Johnny and daughter Shirley started looking for him. They also sent a word to the Our Lady of
Health Parish at Versova, where they pray.
Parishioners then circulated messages on Whatsapp and social media and one such text reached a police Whatsapp group. “On Wednesday noon, patrolling policemen spotted Menezes in Cuffe Parade. He couldn’t remember his name and address. An officer recollected that Menezes was the same person whose picture was in the message that was circukated on their group and dialled the numbers mentioned in it. Johnny answered the call and came to Cuffe Parade police station with his mother. They identified Menezes and took him home,” said an officer.
Shirley said her father does not recollect where he spent the night and how he reached Cuffe Parade. “We are glad he is safe. He cries if we ask him, so we are not insisting he talk,” she said. —Nitasha Natu
