
Odisha four in top 100 all-India rankings of National Institutional Ranking Framework

BHUBANESWAR: Four higher education institutions in the State have secured positions in the all-India rankings of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) which was released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development on Tuesday. Those are Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University, National Institute of Technology-Rourkela (NIT-R), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bhubaneswar and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).
For the rankings, NIRF assessed several higher education institutions on five parameters which included Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research Productivity, Impact and IPR (RPII), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), Graduation Outcome (GO) and Perception (PR). Among the top-100 institutions, SOA University has been placed at 38th position while NIT-R secured 42nd rank, IIT-Bhubaneswar has bagged 51st rank and KIIT figures in 65th spot in overall category. In the last year’s ranking, SOA was placed at 33 while NIT-R, IITBhubaneswar and KIIT had figured in 46th, 66th and 79th positions respectively.
In the university category, SOA University ranked 24th and KIIT bagged 42nd rank. This year, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology participated in the ranking and was placed at 91th spot among top- 100 universities. Fakir Mohan University, Sambalpur University and VSSUT are in 150-200 rank band. In the Engineering institutions category, four institutes which were ranked in the top 100 are NIT-R (15), IIT-Bhubaneswar (18), KIIT (51) and CV Raman Institute of Engineering (89). Compared to the previous year, NIT-R has slipped down the list by three ranks as it had bagged the 12th rank in 2017 and KIIT by four ranks. IIT-Bhubaneswar continued at the 18th spot and CV Raman College climbed up the list by three ranks.
This year, 19 National Institutes of Technology across India took part in the survey and NIT-R secured second rank among them with NIT-Tiruchirappalli leading the list again. In management category, KIIT and Xavier University notched up 30th and 36th ranks among the top 50 B-schools of the country. None of the pharmacy institutes and colleges offering Plus Two and Plus Three education in the State figured in the list this time. Sources in the Higher Education Department said only a handful of colleges participated due to time constraint. As far as medical colleges are concerned, SOA was placed at 19th among the top 25 medical institutions in the country. Against the score of 46.72 it had registered in 2017, SOA had secured 49.59 this year. KIIT, on the other hand, was at the 20th spot.
