’84 riot victim gets compensation

The District Administration of Seraikela and Kharsawan handed over a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to 1984 Sikh riot victim on Tuesday.

A PIL was filed in the Ranchi High Court to bring justice to victims of 1984 massacre by the All India Students Federation, after which a member commission was formed by the Jharkhand government on the order of the High Court, resulting in compensation for the victims.

Gurdeep Kaur’s husband Gurpal Singh was murdered by the rioters in 1984. 85 years old Kaur, who still lives with her son Khushwant Singh in Gahamria, received the amount.President of All India Students Federation, Satnam Singh Gambhir, has been constantly involved in getting compensation. Deputy Commissioner of  Chabi Ranjan gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the victim without delay. When the Deputy Commissioner asked Gurdeep Kaur what she would do with the money, she said with simplicity that her son Khushwant Singh will make a permanent house with it. On the occasion Gambhir said that the fight will continue till the last victim's family gets justice. Amarjeet Singh, Harjeet Singh and Joginder Singh were also present.
