Concert of early 19th-century music

A concert of early 19th century music is taking place today as part of the Gaulitana: A Festival of Music. Taking part will be Angelo Litrico (historical clarinet/basset horn) and Antonio Aprile (historical guitar).

Angelo Litrico

Born in Catania (Italy), Litrico graduated in clarinet from the Istituto Musicale V. Bellini. In 2001 he met clarinettist and woodwind maker Gilles Thomé who introduced him to the historical clarinet, which he subsequently developed  in Holland with Eric Hoeprich at the Koninklijke Conservatorium Den Haag, obtaining a Bachelor’s in Early Music in 2006. He also won the first prize in several chamber music competitions.

Aprile, guitarist and composer, graduated from Vibo Valentia’s conservatory under the guidance of Stefano Magliaro. For more than 15 years he has been working on performance practice on historic instruments, obtaining a Diploma in Historic Guitar at Avellino’s conservatory. Aprile’s research allowed for the publication of repertoire for historical guitar. The instruments he owns include a Gennaro Fabricatore (1828), on which he will perform today, a Luigi Filano (1831) and a Luis Panormo (1840).
