
Commonwealth Games 2018, Day 1 Highlights: The Games are finally here! And India made the most of it with two medals on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. P Gururaja bagged India’s first medal of the Games by picking up a silver but the bigger hurrah and celebrations were reserved for fellow wrestler Mirabai Chanu. The Manipuri created history and set multiple records on the way to standing atop the podium. In other key sports, the shuttlers and paddlers faced little resistance and remained unbeaten on the day. In squash, Sourav Ghosal emerged as a surprise upset – made even more stunning considering he led the match 2-0 at one stage. India would hope to bring more glory and medals on Day 2.

In other key results, India beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan, 5-0 each, in mixed-team event in badminton. In women's hockey, India lose 2-3 to Wales.
India throw away big advantage over Cameroon in Men's Basketball to lose 87-96. Outscored 34-11 in the final quarter. Led 76-62 after third quarter. Post only 24 points in the final two quarters

India lead Cameroon 83-81 in the fourth quarter but have been easily swept aside in this quarter. In the fourth quarter, Cameroon are 19-7 to the good.

Raja Muthupandi adds a failed 148kg attempt and a successful 150kg attempt to his Clean and Jerk event. Posts a combined 266kg (116kg+150kg). Finishes sixth in the Men's 62kg event

Raja Muthupandi with an extremely impressive 143kg in the first and only attempt in Clean and Jerk. Takes his total to 259kg. The best before this stands at 258kg by Cameroon's Olivier Heracles. But we're not done. New Zealand's Ianne Guinares lifts 145kg to take his total to 261kg. Looks like gold is headed to New Zealand!
