Kathmandu, April 3

The government today endorsed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming three-day official India visit slated to start from April 6 to 8.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar this morning took a decision to this effect.

Likewise, the government has decided to keep only one Secretary in all ministries except in the Ministry of the Finance. The incumbent government has downsized the number of ministries to 21 from 31, as per the constitutional provision that the number of Federal government ministers would not exceed 25. Due to reduction in the number of ministries, more than one Secretary has been serving in several ministries, as per Minister for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sher Bahadur Tamang.

“Secretaries of the merged ministries will continue services on their part and the government will not fill vacant posts after their retirement,” said Minister Tamang.

Minister Tamang said cabinet meeting has also rejected the foreign visits of  justices. The meeting has also decided to accept Rs 10 billion grant offered by Asian Development Bank to Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited. Similarly, the meeting has also decided to accept United States government’s Millennium Challenge Cooperation grant of $ 500 million in the next five years.
