A tube well has been sunk near the Kamal Dah jheel in North division of tiger reserve Palamu for people engaged in caring and feeding of three Karnataka elephants.
Two of these elephants are in chains while the calf Murgesan is free but he is too attached to his mother Sita.
On Sunday the boring was done but it had its own adverse impact on the male tusker Kal Bhairav brought in here from Karnataka. Kamal Dah jheel ‘s water is fit for consumption for wildlife but for human beings it is too hazardous. Its water was recently tested for its potability for wild life and it was found good for wild life said sources.
This tusker was so annoyed with the harsh noise of the drilling machine on truck that it was in a very aggressive mood and times and again it wanted to free its legs from the shackles.
Aggressive elephants raise their ear blades like anything and their tails also go up high.
His mahout just refused to go near this tusker as he told the Pioneer “Let this drilling machine be silent first then after one or two hours I will go to my elephant as now its mood is too bad and may attack anyone who dares go near o it.”
A K Mishra deputy director North of PTR said this tube well that we got bored here was under the order of director M P Singh as we had a plan to have one tube well near the Palamu Quila.
The tube well is barely 20 feet away from the Kamal Dah jheel.
Sources said nearby village Rabdee’s people may gather at this water point to fetch water.
However PTR personnel are not allowing any crowd there near the elephants’ shed as too many footfalls irritate elephants there.
The Karnataka team of five goes to dormitory at night in Betla while 6 personnel of PTR keep watching and guarding the 3 Karnataka elephants at the jheel site at night.
The three elephants have been kept under tree shade.
Tourists are reaching this location to have a look at the elephants especially the baby Murgesan who does not get even five feet away from his mother Sita.
