Fracas over food leads to murder

History-sheeter Mohammed Shanoor one of the absconding suspects

An argument over “denial to serve food to a guest, accusing him of turning up at the dining hall for the second time”, resulted in murder at Hussainialam in Old City late on Sunday.

Police said that the incident happened between two groups during an engagement ceremony at Tariqat Manzil Function Hall in Shahgunj. The deceased, Mohammed Anwar alias Anu Baa, a resident of Jamia Nizamia, was attending the engagement of his cousin when he picked up a quarrel with the catering person, denying to serve him food as he came to dine for the second time along with his other friends, said DCP, South Zone, V. Satyanarayana. He said that the suspect, Ashwath Ali Khan, who was supervising the dining arrangements made some comments on Anwar and his family members which provoked Anwar to enter into a fight.

Mr. Satyanarayana said the family members tried to pacify the duo. Khan left the function hall and returned with his brother Mohammed Shanoor and six other persons. Shanoor is a history-sheeter and a resident of Kalapathar, police said. The group picked up argument once again, and Khan stabbed Anwar with a knife killing him instantly. “Sohail, who tried to intervene suffered injuries and was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital,” he said. A case was registered. The suspects are absconding.
