With the initiatives taken by Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), a 60 year old man Jubair Ahmed (Name changed) was finally handed over to his family members after seven years. Ahmed was abandoned by them at Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS) after he went insane.

“Jubair’s family had deserted him in 2011 following he was admitted to RINPAS by one of his brothers but nobody inquired about him after that. Even after his recovery, no one came to take him home for the last 7 years,” said DLSA, Ranchi, Secretary, Fahim Quirmani.

“Looking at his agony, one of the Doctors informed JHALSA by writing a letter to which Acting Chief Justice DN Patel who is also Executive Chairman of JHALSA took cognizance and directed Judicial Commissioner cum DLSA Chairman Navneet Kumar to look into it, which formed a special team to find out Jubair’s family members,” added Quirmani.

The special team constituted by the Chairman took a week’s time to trace his family members, who were convinced to take him home.

through several rounds of counseling and finally, they took Jubair home on Monday,” said Quirmani. A direction has also been given to DLSA to follow-up the case and provide all benefits under the provisions of law for his restoration and rehabilitation, he added.
