Police said late Tuesday one person died and four people were injured during a shooting at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif.

The shooter was a woman who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Emergency personnel transported four victims suffering from gunshot wounds to nearby hospitals in San Francisco and Palo Alto.

Officers responded to the call at 12:48 p.m. local time and said the scene at YouTube remained an active investigation.

In a statement, Google said it was coordinating with authorities and had asked employees at other locations to avoid the area.

YouTube product manager Vadim Lavrusik tweeted that he heard shots fired, saw people running and barricaded himself in a room with co-workers. About 30 minutes later, Lavrusik said he had safely exited the building.

Todd Sherman, another YouTube employee, tweeted that he heard people running and while he was attempting to flee, saw blood on the floor and stairs. Sherman said he made it safely out and took a taxi home.

Citing an anonymous law enforcement source, ABC7 News reported that the shooter was a white, adult female wearing a dark top and head scarf.
