Matt Childers and cooking students to prepare DAI's Spaghetti Dinner April 21

Augusta Mayor Matt Childers wears many hats in the community.  After all, he is the symbolic personification of the city. He must be a visible, responsive and communicative representative of authority at groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings and other ceremonies, reaching out and mollifying his constituencies through direct communication, emails, social media, and phone calls.
In addition to his position as financial advisor at Intrust Bank, Childers also coaches soccer, futsal, and basketball.
The busy husband and father also enjoys teaching young people to cook.
“I always enjoyed cooking and I learned a lot from a chef in Lexington, Ky.  In 2006 or 2007, I was asked if I could teach a few things to a young man who showed an interest in cooking,” Childers explained. “I started with three kids - Max Courtney, Nick Nordman, and my oldest daughter Taylor Childers.  They enjoyed it.”
His third and youngest daughter is now part of his cooking school.
Since the start, the Childers School of Cooking has donated time to prepare and serve delicious meals for Relay For Life Survivor Dinners, Downtown Augusta Inc. events, as well as, meals for Bright Futures Families.
He and students have also enjoyed participating in past chili cook off events held downtown.
Childers and his current class will be preparing and serving at a fundraising Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored by Downtown Augusta, Inc, and Intrust Bank on Saturday, April 21.  The dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCollom Construction, 512 State Street.
Dinner includes spaghetti with four homemade sauce choices, salad, bread, dessert, and a drink.  Adults tickets are $7, kids 10 and under, $4. Dine in or carry-out.
Tickets are available at the DAI office, 618 State Street, or at the door.
