BENGALURU: Congress party has filed a complaint with the Election Commission accusing BJP national president Amit Shah and the party’s Karnataka unit president B S Yeddyurappa of violating poll code of conduct. “They violated the poll code by giving a cheque of `5 lakh on March 30 to the family of deceased Raju who died one-and-a-half years ago, with the sole intent of influencing the votes of the family members of the deceased,” Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in a statement.
The Congress leader said foreseeing the inevitable defeat, BJP is now openly influencing voters by distributing cheques. “The BJP should realise that the people of Karnataka are not for sale and their standard tactic of using money power to crush peoples’ power will not work.” He said that Shah remembered the deceased after one-and-a-half years, that too just before the elections. Raju, a BJP worker, was murdered in Mysuru and during their recent visit Shah and senior BJP leaders had met his family members.
