AIADMK protest stalls Lok Sabha, no-confidence motion once again

VIJAYAWADA: It was a repeat. AIADMK MPs disrupted proceedings in the Lok Sabha demanding Cauvery Board on Monday.Citing that the House was in disorder, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan yet again disallowed the notices on no-confidence motion and adjourned the House for the day.When the House met at 11 a.m, AIADMK MPs trooped into the well of the House holding placards and raising slogans. In just two minutes, the House was adjourned till 12 noon.

Both the TDP and YSRC MPs staged protests outside Parliament following the adjournment of both the Houses of Parliament for the day. N Siva Prasad, TDP MP from Chittoor, dressed as legendary Alluri Sitarama Raju, sang a parody song of famous of ‘Telugu Veera Levara, Deeksha Bhuni Sagara….’  Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and YV Subba Reddy and other YSRC MPs gave notices of no-confidence motion to Speaker’s office yet again after Parliament was adjourned for the day. It was 10th time the notice was given. TDP floor leader Thota Narasimham also gave notice of no-confidence motion to the Speaker’s office.

Meanwhile, YSRC MPs’ sought permission for staging indefinite hunger strike at AP Bhavan from its resident commissioner Praveen Prakash. YSRC party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy tweeted, “SCS is synonymous with job opportunities for the youth! Students in AP will hold protests at university campuses against Central government for not granting SCS. Across the State, students and YSRCP cadres will hold relay hunger strikes at every mandal, village, assembly and district level.”

“SCS is our right! If not granted, YSRCP MPs will resign the day Parliament is adjourned sine die and go on an indefinite hunger strike at AP Bhavan, New Delhi,” he said while asking Chandrababu Naidu to make TDP MPs also resign for the future of the youth of Andhra Pradesh.

Protests  intensified  

Meanwhile, activists of different political parties, social organisations and student outfits staged protests against Centre over Special Category Status issue.In Vijayawada, activists of Left parties staged protests in front of the BJP state office demanding special category status, creating tension in the area for some time.  In Anantapur, students of Sri Krishnadevaraya University led by YSRCP students wing organised road blockade on NH 205. In Sri Venkateswara University, a student JAC was formed and it was decided to intensify agitation in the coming days. Congress activists led by APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy and other senior leaders staged relay hunger strike at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada.The party decided to hold relay hunger strike at every district headquarters.

Fight for SCS
CPI and CPM activists staged a protest at BJP state office in Vijayawada demanding special category status. A heated argument took place between BJP leaders and the protesters. Both parties engaged in jostling. With situation slipping out of hand, police intervened and arrested 24 protesters and dispersed the crowd. Left leaders condemned the arrests.
Students, affiliated to the YSRCP student wing, organised road blockade on NH 205, near Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) main gate in Ananatapur over special category status issue on Monday. The activists burnt tyres on the road, blocked the traffic and raised slogans demanding justice.
