HC sets aside order in land acquisition case

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijayalakshmi on Monday set aside an order of the single judge of High Court relating to acquisition of land of two women.

The two women from Karukonda village of Nagar Kurnool district of Telangana moved the High Court stating that the government acquired their land for construction of a reservoir bank without paying them compensation. They prayed that the works relating to the reservoir in their respective lands be stopped.

The single judge dismissed the petition suggesting the petitioners to approach the civil court for relief. The two women appealed to the division bench. Counsel for the petitioners S. Satyam Reddy told the division bench that the Government took up works in the said lands without paying compensation to the owners. The division bench observed that people can seek justice through the High Court under Article 300-A though they have the option to move civil courts in such instances.
