
Upon an invitation from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS), Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) participated in the 4th meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee of the Arab Literacy Decade (2015-2024) which was recently held in Cairo.
The meeting was chaired by LAS Secretariat, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO) and the Arab Republic of Egypt (the initiative holder).
The Organization extended its gratitude to the Arab League, represented by the Social Affairs Sector – Science and Scientific Research Directorate and expressed pride at its participation in the meetings, which convened with the participation of official delegations from a number of Arab countries and civil society institutions.
HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh commended the Arab Summit’s resolution adopted by the Arab League which led to the proclamation of the Arab Literacy Decade which aims at eradicating illiteracy in all its forms (alphabetical, digital and cultural) all over the Arab world.
“This decision is extremely important because it includes Alphabetical, Digital and Cultural illiteracy to enable self-learning by the Arab citizens in this digital age which is shifting from education to learning,” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said.
The meeting was held as a part of the implementation of the Arab Literacy Decade adopted by the General Secretariat in the framework of Egypt’s initiative, launched during the Kuwait Summit in 2014, with the aim of eradicating illiteracy throughout the Arab world by developing an agenda of actions, defining roles of all stakeholders and establishing a timeframe for implementation.
TAG-Org Executive Director of International Professional Partnerships, Mr. Salah Abu Osbeh, expressed pride on behalf of the Organization for being invited to take part in the meeting and implement recommendations relating to the Decade in cooperation with the League’s Secretariat, ALESCO and all member states of the Higher Coordination Committee, noting that TAG-Org has offices in every Arab country enabling its experts to effectively execute any assigned tasks related to this initiative.
Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization submitted a paper that includes a program for eliminating Alphabetical, Digital and Cultural illiteracy, which was developed based on TAG-Org's expertise in the fields of training and education extending over 45 years throughout the Arab world.
Moreover, the Organization gave a detailed presentation on education in the age of knowledge, the necessity for using ICT as an empowerment tool in all fields, and knowledge as the foundation of learning.
