IOWA CITY — An opioid addiction support group will host a documentary screening and discussion later this month.
According to a news release, CRUSH of Iowa will screen “Written Off: The Short, Sad, Beautiful Life of Matt Edwards” on April 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. at The River Community Church, 3001 Muscatine Ave. Iowa City. The documentary follows the life of a young man who experienced opioid use disorder and the impact of his addiction on his life and the lives of those around him.
Following the documentary, Rod and Deb Courtney, whose son died of a heroin overdose in November 2016, will facilitate a discussion and share their son’s story.
CRUSH — Community Resources United to Stop Heroin — of Iowa is a community-based organization that strives to help those “who have fallen victim to opioid addiction,” the news release states. The organization meets the third Monday of each month at Prelude Behavioral Services, 438 Southgate Ave., in Iowa City; and the first and third Wednesday at Mission of Hope, 1700 B Ave. NE, in Cedar Rapids.
