DURANGO, Colo. (AP) A Colorado man has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a car crash that killed two people and left two others critically injured.
The Durango Herald reported Monday that District Judge Todd Norvell said because of the seriousness of the crash, incarceration was an appropriate punishment for Anthony Rodriquez.
Rodriquez must also serve five years of probation after his release from prison. He pleaded guilty in January to two counts of vehicular homicide, as well as charges of careless driving causing bodily injury and driving without insurance.
Witnesses say Rodriguez was traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle lost control, skid into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV carrying a family of four.
Robert Streett and his 16-year-old son, Robby Street, died.
