Prices of copper and nickel strengthened by up to Rs 5 per kg at the non-ferrous metal market today on rising demand from consuming industries amid a firm trend overseas.
Traders said, besides pick-up in demand from consuming industries at domestic spot market, a firm trend overseas where copper climbed to a more than one-week high, finding support from stronger-than-expected manufacturing growth in top metals user China, mainly influenced sentiment here.
Globally, copper for delivery in three-month jumped by 1 per cent to USD 6,777 a tonne, having peaked at USD 6,802 a tonne, its highest since March 22 on the London Metal Exchange.
In the national capital, copper mixed scrap and nickel plate (4x4) gained another Rs 3 and Rs 5 to Rs 420 and Rs 820-825 per kg, respectively.
