LUDHIANA: After state government’s directive to conduct
dope test of applicants who apply for fresh arms license or renewal,
Lok Insaaf Party MLA from
Ludhiana Simarjit Singh Bains has shot off a letter to department of home affairs,
Punjab and demanded that dope test of all policemen and officers of Punjab police also be made mandatory.
Speaking to TOI over the issue,
Bains said, “In its latest orders department of home affairs, Punjab has ordered that if any resident of Punjab wants to apply for arms license or wants to get his old license renewed his dope test will be conducted and he will be granted license only after that. But what about the policemen and officials who remain on duty for entire day and carry arms round the clock why they shouldn’t be subject to dope test as well. It has been seen quite often that some police officials misuse the official weapons when on duty or off duty. So dope test of all police officials should be made mandatory as well if it is being made mandatory for the public”
Bains also added, “I have sent a letter to the department of home affairs today and put forward my demand. If the department fails to make dope test mandatory for cops then it should not be made compulsory for the common citizens too.”
