Day of goodbyes at the Wanderers

2018-04-03 09:48

Cape Town - Tuesday, April 3, 2018 - also known as Day 5 of the fourth and final Test between South Africa and Australia - will be one of farewells in Johannesburg.

Firstly, it will be 'so long, farewell', to Proteas speedster Morne Morkel who will retire after 86 Tests for his country. Morkel currently has 309* wickets and lies fifth on the all-time Test wicket-taker charts for his country.

Secondly, it will be the last day in charge for Australian coach Darren Lehmann who sensationally announced he was stepping down from his role in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal that marred the third Test at Newlands.

And lastly, it will be goodbye to the 48-year-old unwanted 'record' of not having beaten Australia in South Africa in a Test series. Not since the glory days of Ali Bacher's iconic side of 1969/70 has SA tasted success in the country against their fiercest rivals. Australia head into Day 5 on 88/3, chasing an impossible 612 for victory. A draw for South Africa will be enough to give Faf du Plessis' men a 2-1 series triumph.
