FC Goa defeated fellow Indian Super League side ATK 3-1 to book quarterfinal berth in the Super Cup football tournament here on Tuesday.
Ferran Corominas (45+1) opened the scoring for FC Goa before Robbie Keane (50th) replied with an equaliser soon after the lemon break in the round of 16 match at the Kalinga Stadium.
Strikes from Hugo Boumous (70th) and Brandon Fernandes (77th) then helped the Gaurs record a 3-1 victory and set up quarters date with Jamshedpur FC, who on Monday beat I-League champions Minerva Punjab 5-4 in sudden death penalty shootout.
FC Goa drew first blood through Spanish forward Ferran Corominas (45+1’) in the dying moments of the first half.
The first half of the game began on an attacking note, with ATK managing a corner within the first minute but a poor shot ensured they stood eluded from gathering a lead early in the game.
The Robbie Keane-led Kolkata outfit went on to show its intent, consistently attacking on the Goan post, twice getting extremely close, but the lack of a good finish denied it from an early lead.
FC Goa started on their forward move a little late but the story wasn’t much different at its end as well, until a pass from Brandon Fernandes to unmarked Spanish forward Ferran Corominas (45’ + 1’), ensured that the Goan team stamped its authority in the game taking a lead during injury time.
The second half began with ATK again leading the attack with an equaliser in the 50 minute from Keane. There after ATK kept pressing hard for a lead but the Goan defence did not allow it to break in.
FC Goa started slowly but struck early when a brilliant lofted pass from Corominas at the centre line to French Boumous in the 69 minute, saw the French make a beautiful run to the ATK box making no mistakes in finding the back of the net bringing back FC Goa in the lead.
It soon struck back through Brandon Fernandes in the 77th minute ensuring the Goan outfit finished the game with a 3-1 win over ATK.
