Woman alleges gang rape; two arrested, one on run

Victim was brought from Bengal to Delhi on pretext of job

An 18-year-old woman from West Bengal was allegedly gang raped by three persons in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri, the police said on Monday. The two accused in the case were arrested on Monday while the third is yet to be identified.

The victim approached Jaipur Police on March 29 after which they registered the zero First Information Report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said.

Case transferred

The case was then transferred to the Delhi Police on Saturday as per the jurisdiction of committed crime.

The girl alleged that she was brought to Delhi from West Bengal by a man identified as Ashiqul Sheikh around five months ago, when she was 17 years old, on pretext of facilitating a job for her.

“She said that the man forcibly kept her at his residence in Tughlakabad Extension where he and his associates Raju Sheikh and another person, who is yet to be identified, raped her two months ago,” said a senior police officer.

The victim somehow managed to flee from the house and reached Jaipur where she is currently working, said the police.

POCSO Act

When she approached the police, a case was registered under Sections 376D (where a woman is raped by one or more persons constituting a group), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, and 6 Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (As the victim was a minor at the time of incident).

“The accused Ashiqul Sheikh (24) and Raju Sheikh (30), both from West Bengal have been arrested from their temporary rented accommodation in Khanpur’s Duggal Colony on Monday,” said Mr. Biswal.
