The continuing fracas between the students and mess contractor of Gurukul Kangri Viswavidyalaya  reached the police station on Monday as a case was registered against eight people from both the sides for the alleged  ransacking of the mess of the university. Notably, things had started a few days ago after some students complained of having found worms lurking in their food served at the mess to the Vice-Chancellor.

On Friday, things had reached flashpoint after students led by Tarun Chauhan and Rahul Chowdhary had staged a sit -in outside the VC’s residence, demanding action. The students had alleged that Rahul Chowdhary had been roughed up the same night. Sunday had seen the mess contractor Sachin Pratap having complained that the university mess had been ransacked by some students.

Speaking of the matter Rahul Chowdhary complained, “An ex-student of the university Amardeep, mess contractor and some others attacked me with a sword. I escaped the attack as I managed to hide myself behind bush.”

The police said that they have lodged cases against eight people from both sides, including an Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader Rahul Chowdhary, in connection with the matter.
