Woods played nine holes yesterday alongside Couples and Justin Thomas ahead of the Masters which gets underway on Thursday.
The former world No 1 is one of the favourites for the first major of the year and he’s looking to get his hands on his fifth green jacket.
After recovering from a long-standing back problem, the American has shown signs this year he could pose a real threat after two top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour.
Woods will be making his first appearance at Augusta in three years and 1992 Masters champion Couples thinks there wasn’t much difference to the way his compatriot played yesterday compared to 10 years ago.
Today wasn’t any different than it was 10 years ago when I played with him. It was pretty awesome
“If you watched him play today, there’s not much of a back problem,” Couples said.
“He’s hitting it a long way, and it looks beautiful.
“Today wasn’t any different than it was 10 years ago when I played with him. It was pretty awesome.”
Couples also explained how Tiger mania reached new levels during his round.

He added: “He’s one of my best friends. I don’t see him much, but as far as being around him, I just love the guy.
“Today the atmosphere was awesome. People were excited to see him and see him play well.
“It’s always nice to see someone, but when they’re doing what they do and they’re doing it well, it makes for a pretty good atmosphere.”
