Supreme Court to hear today Centre’s review petition on SC/ST Act ruling

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal sought urgent hearing of the review petition in the SC/ST Act issue at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear in open court the Centre’s review petition on its order on the alleged misuse of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The Supreme Court Bench asked the A-G to seek from the Chief Justice of India (CJI) the constitution of same Bench which passed the SC/ST Act verdict.

The A-G referred to the violence leading to loss of lives and damage to property during Bharat Bandh, and sought urgent hearing of the review petition.

The CJI agreed to set up the original Bench which passed SC/ST Act verdict to hear it.
