Teachers stage dharna against varsities Bill

Leaders of the Democratic Teachers Federation (DTF) district unit staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate in Karimnagar town on Tuesday demanding that the government abolish the ‘controversial’ Private Universities Bill to protect the education sector from commercialisation.

The DTF leaders, led by their State leader M. Raghushankar Reddy, district president P. Eshwar Reddy and general secretary K Chandramouli, alleged that the State government had introduced the Bill only as part of the World Trade Organisation agreement. They said that the government was “deliberately neglecting” the existing 14 universities in the State by not allocating funds, filling up vacant teaching posts and also not filling Vice-Chancellor posts.
