Colombo High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake yesterday granted bail to former DIG Vass Gunewardena and four others in respect of the indictment for the possession of firearms and dangerous weapons.
Bail was in Rs. 10,000 cash and a surety of Rs. 100,000. He was released on the condition he would report to the CID on Sunday every month.
Counsel Vishara de Livera Tennekoon appeared for the accused persons.
Meanwhile, Gunewardene and the other accused have been convicted of the murder of businessman Mohammed Shiyam and sentenced to death by the High Court of Colombo.
The prison term stands.
