CEDAR RAPIDS- The Cedar Rapids Police Department has completed the accident investigation involving a male victim found deceased in the roadway at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13th.
According to a news release, the victim, who was found in the 3200 block of 6th Street SW, was identified as Lavell Robinson Jr., 29, of Coralville.
According to the release, witnesses claim to have seen the victim walking on the shoulder of the roadway and appeared to have stumbled to the ground. When officers arrived, an individual that was driving a Jeep indicated that they had struck the victim as he was lying in the roadway.
According to the release, the investigation determined that there were 3 factors involved in the fatality:
- The victim had the presence of alcohol and tested positive for other drugs.
- The victim was wearing dark clothing and was lying on the ground in the roadway when struck by the vehicle. Evidence from the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was indicative that the victim was already on the ground.
- The victim was in the roadway and not at a crosswalk or intersection.
According to the release, investigators were able to obtain surveillance video that indicated that only the Jeep was involved in the accident.
Officials stated there will be no criminal charges filed in this incident.
