Police trying to collect details of Maoist sympathiser Prithvi Raj

No information on his movements, say local police

Sleuths of the State, the Central Intelligence and the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) are trying to monitor the movements of law student A. Prithvi Raj (27), who reportedly has links with Naxal leadership.

A post-graduate of the Hyderabad Central University (HCU), Prithvi Raj, is pursuing law in the Siddhartha Law College at Kanuru. He is a native of Keesarapalli village in Gannavaram mandal, Krishna district. Following the directions of the Maoist leaders, Prithvi Raj, along with another HCU mate Chandan Kumar Mishra of West Bengal, allegedly conspired to kill HCU Vice-Chancellor P. Appa Rao, to avenge Rohith Vemula’s suicide. The local police said they had no information on their movements.

Jail term

Interestingly, the law student was arrested by the Palvancha police in Khammam district a couple of years ago and was sent to the Warangal Central Prison for contacts with the Naxalites. “Prithvi Raj was attracted to the Maoist’s ideology and Mishra came in contact with Naxalite cadre when they were pursuing post-graduation in the HCU. They spoke with some top leaders through the CPI(ML) Maoist State Committee members and prepared a plan for the murder. But how come the intelligence police failed to track their movements,” a police officer asked. The police are trying to find out the activities of Prithvi Raj during his stay in Hyderabad and his contacts in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. “We came to know about Prithvi Raj after his arrest on Saturday. The Counter Intelligence, SIB and other agencies are trying to collect more information,” a senior officer told The Hindu.
