Purohit running parallel govt: Stalin

Seeks broad-based support for the opposition-sponsored bandh on April 5

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday alleged that Tamil Nadu had a dual government — one led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and another by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

When asked about the Governor wanting the Chief Secretary and the Attorney General to meet him on Sunday, Mr. Stalin alleged that Mr. Purohit was running a parallel government in the State.

To a query whether he would invite film stars to participate in the opposition-sponsored bandh on April 5 in support of the Cauvery Management Board, he quipped, “We would even request the ruling party to support the protest.”

He said that those who were organising protests independent of political parties should also join the stir.

Mr. Stalin said he had requested the traders’ association, headed by Vikramaraja, to withdraw its call for a bandh on April 3 as it would affect the annual examinations of schools. “He has agreed to consider the request,” the DMK leader said.
