After big wins in the opening round of the playoffs last week, Harlingen South, Harlingen High and La Feria are all still alive and kicking in the UIL girls state soccer playoffs.
All three squads hit the field tonight in area-round games.
The Lady Hawks, who defeated PSJA Memorial 1-0 this past Thursday, take on Laredo United at 6 p.m. at Roma High School.
Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals, who beat Edinburg Vela in an overtime thriller 6-5, take on McAllen High at 7 p.m. at Edcouch-Elsa High School.
Finally, the Lionettes, who advanced with a 1-0 victory over Progreso, battle Somerset at 6 p.m. today at Beeville High School.
SOFTBALL
The District 32-6A-leading Harlingen South Hawks put their undefeated league record on the line tonight when they host Los Fresnos at 7. They then conclude the week at Brownsville Hanna on Friday. Meanwhile, the Harlingen Lady Cardinals look to snap a two-game losing skid at Brownsville Rivera tonight before hosting a very solid Weslaco High squad on Friday. Finally, the San Benito Lady Greyhounds, who have won their last two in a row, are home all this week. They host Weslaco East tonight then welcome Brownsville Rivera into town on Friday.
BASEBALL
The Harlingen South Hawks snapped a four-game losing skid last week with a win over Brownsville Hanna. The Green Birds will now look to keep the momentum going as they take on the San Benito Greyhounds this week. South is at San Benito tonight then host the Greyhounds on Friday. The Hounds, meanwhile, have been up and down so far this season. Last week they split their series against Brownsville Rivera and the week before that they split their series against Weslaco East. Finally, the Harlingen High Cardinals have been on a downward spiral as of late, dropping their last four in a row. The Red Birds will look to get back on track this week as they take on Weslaco East at home tonight then on the road Friday.
TRACK & FIELD
The District 32-6A and District 32-4A meets are on tap this week. The 32-6A meet is set for Thursday and Saturday at San Benito’s Bobby Morrow Stadium. Running preliminaries and field events are Thursday while running finals will be held Saturday. The 32-4A meet, meanwhile, will be run Friday at Lions Stadium in La Feria.
