The main stage in Jajpur, where the 150th year of the municipality is being celebrated with much grandeur, collapses after being hit by a Nor’wester on Sunday. Famous singer Sonu Nigam could not perform his show | Express

BHUBANESWAR: A cyclonic circulation stretching from Bangladesh, combined with a trough line over the State, triggered summer thunderstorms across many parts of coastal Odisha on Sunday.Rain and strong wind affected life during the evening hours but, more importantly, brought down the mercury which came as a huge solace to people. The inclement weather led to cancellation of a cultural event at Baramunda Ground where playback singer Kailash Kher was to perform.

In Jajpur, where the 150th year of the municipality is being celebrated with much grandeur, the main stage collapsed after being hit by a Nor’wester as a result famous singer Sonu Nigam could not perform.
The weather office said the condition was caused by a cyclonic circulation which combined with a trough line and southerly wind flow.

This led to moisture incursion and the hot conditions triggered thunder storms. In the State Capital, the weather led to power shutdowns at many places before being restored.Since the cyclonic circulation will prevail for a few days, such weather will continue for the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department said.
