Netflix's new project The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina may have originally been billed as a Riverdale spin-off, but you probably shouldn't expect to see a crossover between the two projects any time soon.

Riverdale executive producer Jon Goldwater recently told TVLine that crossovers are not on their minds right now, even going so far as to call Riverdale and Sabrina "two separate entities."

The CW is a pro at crossovers at this point, considering it had quite a few successful crossover events between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals as well as the superhero properties The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. When it comes to crossing over on shows outside the network, however, things get sticky.

The divide between Netflix and The CW is a big one, not just in content ownership but also in their respective production and release timelines -- remember, Netflix series drop all their episodes at once as opposed to broadcast's preference of on a weekly basis. That divide is likely going to cause some stumbling blocks in the crossover process. Still, it's not totally unchartered territory for two shows on different networks to cross over, since The Flash did manage to cross over with Supergirl when the latter was still on CBS. (However, even that wasn't that hard as CBS owns The CW.)

Goldwater did admit he "would love it if they could figure out a way to cross over," so at least the idea hasn't been dismissed entirely.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
