HYDERABAD: Unable to overcome her depression, 36-year-old Telugu TV news presenter V Radhika Reddy jumped to her death from the fifth floor terrace of the building in which her parents stay, hours after reading the 9pm prime time bulletin on Sunday.

Police said Radhika divorced her husband six months ago and moved to her parent's house in Moosapet along with her son. According to Kukatpally police inspector V Prasanna Kumar, "After Radhika reached the apartment building on Sunday night, instead of going to her parent's flat on the second floor, she walked up to the terrace and leapt from there. With multiple injuries, including a severe head injury and leg fracture she died on the spot."

Radhika abandoned her hand bag on the terrace in which police found a suicide note . "Kevalam naa depression valla maatrame chanipotunna. Evaru reason kaadu. Naa brain naa shatruvu (I am killing myself only because of my depression. Nobody is responsible. My brain is my enemy)," read her suicide note. After completion of the autopsy, the body was handed over to her family members on Monday.

On Monday, as her pyre was being lit in Sanathnagar, her 14-year-old autistic child, who failed to fathom the reality, tried to wake her up. "Mummy akkada undhi" (mommy is there), he told relatives even as they grappled with the trauma of the child.
