Congress President Rahul Gandhi hits out at the Centre over SC/ST Act, says oppressing Dalits is in the DNA of BJP and RSS.
"We have filed a review petition over the SC/ST Act in Supreme Court. The Narendra Modi government is committed to the progress of Dalits," said Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The Centre will file a petition in the Supreme Court today, seeking review of the judgment diluting the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The government is likely to tell the top court that the order banning automatic arrest and registration of cases for alleged harassment of SCs/STs will dilute a law aimed at protecting the marginalised.
The CBSE has postponed examinations of Classes 10 and 12, scheduled to be held today, in Punjab following a request by the state government in view of 'Bharat Bandh'. The government has also decided to keep all schools shut for the day.
