Ryots stress need for united front on CMB

‘A 12-hour bandh or agitations on different dates will not deliver the results, the protesters must rectify their stance’

Delta farmers are appalled that instead of putting up a joint and a concerted fight to back their demand for constituting Cauvery Management Board (CMB), political parties and organisations are resorting to multi-dimensional stirs that will ultimately serve no purpose in achieving the farmers’ aim.

The agitations being planned only served the political parties to avoid the slur that they were not doing anything for the cause of the farmers. The agitations could get the parties some media publicity but definitely not the CMB, said Mahadanapuram V. Rajaram, president, Cauvery Delta Farmers Welfare Association.

A one-day State-wide peaceful human chain protest would make more sense, he added.

“We are not proceeding on the right path by staging different protests on varied planes. This is the time for speaking in one voice and putting up a united fight”, said Arupathy Kalyaam, general secretary, Federation of Farmers Associations of Delta Districts.

“Unite at least in this key issue that impacts the livelihood of crores of people in the State”, requests a farmer V. Jeevakumar of Budalur in Thanjavur district.
