Faster, more frequent: Metro rail gears up for improved run

Picking pace: L&TMRH is running 400 services every day with 18 trains, which could be increased to 22 three-coach trains with higher speed.

L&TMRH awaits green signal from regulatory authorities

Citizens already hopping onto the Hyderabad Metro Rail operations for the last four months can expect better services within the next few days between the inaugural route of Nagole-Ameerpet-Miyapur. L&T Metro Rail authorities are all geared up for more services and improve the frequency of trains, once the regulatory authorities give the green signal.

There is a likelihood of frequency and speed of trains between both the sections being made uniform. There is a train for every eight minutes between Miyapur and Ameerpet (13 km), and it is going to be the same for the section between Nagole to Ameerpet (17 km) as well. Metro rail authorities are awaiting the permission from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to increase the frequency from the present 15 minutes in the second section.

β€œAll the necessary testing for operating the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) between Mettuguda and Ameerpet as also between S.R. Nagar and Ameerpet have been completed. It will help increase the speed and frequency,” informed HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy, when contacted.

L&TMRH is running 400 services every day with 18 trains and this could be increased to 22 three-coach trains with higher speed, the average speed now being about 30 kmph. Metro rail officials have also stated that the door opening and closing time could be reduced to 10 seconds from 20-45 seconds.

The 30-km inaugural route which straddles parts of the two main corridors of Miyapur to L.B. Nagar (Corridor 1) and Nagole to Hi-Tec City/Raidurg via the interchange station of Ameerpet has been having a constant ridership of 50-70,000 a day with more number of people in the weekends.
