Autopsy reveals blood clot in brain

A 21-year-old Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) of the 108 ambulance attached to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Vaduganthangal, suffered an epileptic attack while attending to an emergency case and was declared brought dead at the Government Hospital in Gudiyatham on Sunday night.

Kalaiselvi, who was working as an EMT for nearly two years, had reported for night duty on March 31 after three days of leave. They returned to the PHC at 10 p.m., according to officials.

Died in ambulance

At 10.22 p.m., another case was assigned to them. It was an assault case near Ramapuram in which two men and a woman were reportedly injured. When they reached the spot, a police sub-inspector was also present.

“The three persons were taken in the ambulance, and Kalaiselvi got in with them. The pilot had closed the door and was about to start the vehicle when he heard a noise from the patient cabin. When he opened the door, he saw Kalaiselvi on the floor of the ambulance, and she was having a seizure,” an official said.

She was rushed to the Vaduganthangal PHC where the staff nurse found that that her vitals were down. “Her sister was admitted at the PHC as she underwent caesarean section three days ago. So, her mother was at the PHC when she was rushed in. Kalaiselvi was rushed to the Gudiyatham GH where doctors declared her brought dead,” he added. Her body was sent for post mortem.

He said that the post mortem report found that she had a blood clot in the brain, but there was no external injury.
