Four killed as car, bus collide

Victims were going to Udhagamandalam from Madurai

Four persons, including two women and a child, were killed on the spot and a 15-year-old-boy was injured when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus on Dindigul-Palani Highway at Palakanuthu village near Oddanchatram on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as V. Chitra, 35, her daughter V. Lakshana, 8, her grandmother Muthulakshmi, 66 and car driver Manjaiappan, all from Madurai.

The grievously injured V. Thiru Vikram, 15, son of Chitra, was treated at Dindigul Government Headquarter Hospital and then referred to the Madurai GRH.

According to the police, the Corporation bus, which was proceeding to Madurai from Coimbatore, collided with the car coming from Madurai. The car was completely damaged in the impact of the collision and the police struggled for hours to remove the bodies. The bodies were sent to the Oddanchatram Government Hospital for post-mortem.

The police have registered a case and are investigating. Traffic was disrupted on the road fore more than an hour and hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both directions.

Chitra and her family members were going to Udhagamandalam from Madurai to admit Thiru Vikram in a boarding school.
