In Uttar Pradesh, a fifteen day long special drive against Communicable Diseases including Japanese Encephalitis JE and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome AES began today in 38 districts. Special focused districts are all seven districts of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Campaign in Gorakhpur and Sidharthnagar districts.
AIR correspondent reports that the campaign has been called Dastak and seven departments with the help of UNICEF have been engaged in the campaign. During the campaign, all drainage and lanes in villages will be cleaned and hand pumps will be repaired to ensure clean drinking water to the villagers. Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) department has been asked to identify the malnourished children and refer them to nearby health centers. In Gorakhpur and Basti divisions 104 Primary and Community Health centers have been upgraded and Encephalitis Treatment Centers have been established there. 41 thousand health workers have been trained in both the divisions to control the JE and provide medical help as earliest.
617 villages have been identified as sensitive in view of JE affected and special fogging will be conducted during the drive against the larva responsible for the spread of JE.
