Seminar on human rights issues in health sector

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to curb the burgeoning rate of human rights violation in the health sector and to find a solution to the pressing issues, the State Human Rights Commission will conduct a one-day seminar at the Olympia Chambers of Palayam Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium on Tuesday.  Judicial officers of the Rights Commission and health experts will take part.

Various complex topics associated with the health sector such as human rights law and complaints from the health sector, rights and legal cover of the patients, medical negligence and legal care, euthanasia and humaneness will be discussed. The commission will compile the ideas formulated during the seminar and will submit it to the government. The commission will also compile the essays and experiences of 30 health experts and will bring it out as a book. The seminar commences at 9.30 am and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 11.30 am. Former High Court Chief Justice J B Koshy, Justice C N Ramachandran Nair and Justice K R Udayabhanu will present papers. Former DGP Alexander Jacob, National University of Advanced Legal Studies former Vice-Chancellor N K Jayakumar, planning board member B Ekbal and Indian Medical Association state general secretary Dr N Sulfi will deliver talks.
