SC/ ST Act: protests turn violent in Rajasthan, train services affected

The nationwide bandh called by several Dalit organisations against the dilution of the SCs/ST Act turned violent at a few places in Rajasthan.

In Jaipur, several trains were stopped by protesters. Trains plying from Jaipur to Delhi were stopped at Alwar railway station.

Agitators also pelted stones at the trains.

"Our train was stopped at Alwar railway station and suddenly protesters started pelting stones. We are stuck for the last three hours," said Rishabh Pandey, a passenger travelling on the Jaipur-Allahabad Express.

The Jaipur metro also halted its operations from 11 am to 5 pm.

Hundreds of protesters carrying swords, sticks, forced shopkeepers and other establishments in Barmer, Kota and Jodhpur to down their shutters.

In Barmer city and Hindaun in Karauli districts, Section 144 has been imposed. A ban on internet services has also been imposed till 8 pm on April 3.
