Sun Bowes, Tiger Caddy to miss one match each
Gold Coast youngster Jack Bowes looks set to miss the Suns’ round three clash with Fremantle after he was offered a one-match ban for his hit on out-of-form Carlton defender Jacob Weitering.
Richmond will also have to do without key midfielder Josh Caddy against Hawthorn, after the Tigers on Monday accepted the one-match suspension for his strike on Adelaide’s David Mackay, who suffered concussion in the incident.
Bowes was one of eight players cited during the weekend’s matches but the only one to be offered a suspension, with the other seven handed fines.
The 20-year-old was running back with the flight of the ball during Saturday’s win when he collided with Weitering in the air.
Weitering got to his feet and kicked the goal after receiving a free kick, and Bowes wasn’t reported by umpires on the day.
Given that Weitering took his kick, it’s safe to assume that the medical report played some part in the assessment from match review officer Michael Christian, who deemed the impact of the incident as “medium”.
Weitering, however, did go off the ground for six minutes after kicking the goal before being given the all-clear from club doctors to return to the field.
Elsewhere, Greater Western Sydney teammates Phil Davis and Rory Lobb have been fined for wrestling, as has Collingwood’s Lynden Dunn, while Melbourne’s Jordan Lewis, Lions Nick Robertson and Dayne Zorko and Eagle Jamie Cripps were all fined for misconduct.
Tigers’ ruckman Toby Nankervis and Crows’ youngster Darcy Fogarty both accepted $1500 fines for misconduct.
