UK skydiver still in hospital after Barwon Heads midair crash
A skydiver remains in hospital after a mid-air collision on the Bellarine Peninsula on Easter Sunday.
The 30-year-old man, from the United Kingdom, was rushed to hospital after reportedly colliding with another professional diver 20 metres off the ground near Barwon Heads.
A spokesman for Skydive Australia said the two experienced solo jumpers collided as they approached the landing at dusk.
A 24-year-old Melbourne man was flown to The Alfred hospital with concussion and bruising.
He was discharged later Sunday.
The UK man suffered a fractured ankle and compression fractures. He remained in hospital in Geelong on Monday afternoon but a spokeswoman said he could be transferred to The Alfred on Tuesday.
His condition had improved from serious to stable, she said.
Channel Seven reported on Sunday the men collided and fell 20 metres to the ground as they were preparing to land in a paddock.
"Both men are in good spirits and recovering well," Skydive Australia said.
An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the incident.
A spokesman for Skydive Australia said on Monday the investigation had been delayed by the public holiday.
